SOUTH JORDAN — A woman was critically injured when a car crashed into a semitruck on I-15 in South Jordan early Friday morning.
The car was southbound near 11400 South around 3:30 a.m. when it hit the back of the semitruck, went across all lanes of traffic and hit a barrier on the left, then came to rest in a lane of traffic, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Brent Shelby.
An off-duty Murray police officer came upon the crash and reported it.
Three people were inside the car. A woman passenger was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. The man driving was transported with minor injuries. And an infant in the car was not injured but was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Shelby said.
The driver of the semitruck was not injured.
Investigators believe speed, drowsy driving or impaired driving may have been factors in the crash. Shelby said they found evidence to suggest impairment may have been a contributing factor.
Shelby said he did not know how fast the car was traveling but said it was going faster than the semitruck, which was traveling at normal freeway speed.
