WOODS CROSS — The Woods Cross Police Department said they thankfully haven't dealt with a package theft case this year, but in the past they have.
So, they've announced a new initiative to thwart the problem. Call them Santa Squad.
The police station, located at 1555 S. 800 West, will now be a holding station not only to question criminals but also to hold Christmas packages too.
Residents can send their packages to the station and then pick them up there, so they don't get to greedy grinches.
Police officers say they will drop off packages to residents who are elderly or have special needs.
The police station has some big rooms where the packages will be locked up.
Lacey Maxfield and her family moved to woods across one year ago.
"We never had a package stolen here, but in Sandy, it happened all the time. We lived right on a busy road," she said.
Officers hope it not only helps prevent theft but also brings new faces to their station.
"It's just so neat that they'd be willing to do that for people," Maxfield said.
"We're excited and looking forward to getting some packages," said Woods Cross Police Lt. Adam Osoro.
