SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man they believe is connected with a Layton shooting after they say he led officers on a vehicle pursuit that began in Centerville before fleeing on foot in Salt Lake City Thursday afternoon.
Layton police identified and are searching for Eddie Angelo Samora, 31. He is described as 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He has tattoos on his neck and face.
Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said Samora is considered armed and dangerous.
The chain of events began sometime around 12:40 p.m. when Layton police responded to a report of a shooting at 1650 N. Avalon Drive, according to Lyman.
Lyman said a 32-year-old man, who was not immediately identified, was shot multiple times in the chest outside of an apartment complex after an apparent altercation. The man was transported by ambulance to a hospital before he was flown to University of Utah Hospital. Lyman said the man was in surgery as of late Thursday afternoon.
Officers believed the individual involved with the shooting, later identified as Samora, fled in a dark-colored SUV.
Shortly after, Centerville police spotted a vehicle matching that description and a partial license plate witnesses were able to give police. A vehicle pursuit then ensued, Centerville Police Sgt. Von Steenblik said.
Police lost track of the vehicle until it was found abandoned in Salt Lake City near 900 West and 300 North, Lyman added. The vehicle was impounded where it will be processed for any possible evidence.
"We're not 100 percent certain it's associated yet, but we think there's a chance," he said.
Lyman said the 32-year-old victim and Samora were acquaintances, but police are still investigating what the led up to the shooting.
