Tomorrow in the greater Salt Lake area is the annual United Way Day of Caring.
As in previous years, thousands of volunteers, many of them given paid time off by their employers, will spread out across the community to engage in various forms of service. Last year, for example, 2,800 volunteers from over 87 companies committed time, labor and expertise to over 135 much-needed service projects.
It's always a remarkable undertaking, and an indication of the community's commitment to helping those in need. And it is just one of many efforts spear-headed by United Way each year to make our community better.
KSL appreciates and endorses United Way's approach to solving community concerns and problems. It is an organization "committed to creating lasting changes in peoples' lives and in the community as a whole." Specifically, United Way seeks to improve standards of living, build life skills, provide adequate child supervision, and open doors to education. Because of that focus, the entire community benefits through the positive changes that occur.
KSL joins the broader community in thanking United Way for a job well-done. And we encourage widespread volunteer and financial support for this proven effective approach to dealing with some of the area's most pressing challenges.
