SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two people were recovering Monday from a shooting that left a third person dead after a reportedly suicidal man started firing into homes in a lakeside town, Utah authorities said.

The shooting Sunday in the northern Utah town of Garden City wounded a 62-year-old woman and 72-year-old man. They have not been publicly identified, but a family statement released by Bear River Health Department officials said they were recovering.

The victims were wounded shortly after sheriff's deputies received reports of a man shooting into homes in the Sweetwater Trailer Park, according to a statement from Rich County Sheriff Dale Stacey.

The pair was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, and a third person died at the scene. Authorities released few other details about what happened, including the status of the suspected shooter.

The sheriff's office and a state team were investigating the shooting.

No new information was immediately available Monday, Rich County dispatchers said.

Garden City is about 120 miles north of Salt Lake City, near the popular vacation destination of Bear Lake.
