MILLCREEK — A water main break completely closed a section of 3300 South for several hours and will likely cause traffic delays throughout Wednesday, Utah Department of Transportation officials said.

UDOT said 3300 South was closed in both directions at 1700 East. The agency originally said it expected the road would be closed at that location until about 3 p.m. One lane of traffic reopened shortly after 3:15 p.m.

However, construction to completely fix the issue is expected to go into Thursday, which could continue to cause traffic backups, according to UDOT officials.

Unified Fire Authority and Salt Lake County utility crews were also at the scene working to fix the water main break.

UDOT advised drivers to take alternate routes if possible to help traffic congestion.
