SOLDIER SUMMIT — One person was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition following a two-car accident near Soldier Summit Sunday evening, Utah Highway Patrol officials reported.

At about 7 p.m., a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on state Route 6 near the Utah and Wasatch County border. The male driver, who was fatigued, fell asleep at the wheel causing his pickup truck to drift into the westbound lane and clip another pickup truck that was traveling in that direction, according to trooper Cameron Roden. The impact caused the second pickup truck to roll.

There were three occupants in the second pickup truck, all of whom were transported via ambulance to a hospital. One of the occupants, who Roden only identified as a woman in her 40s, sustained the most severe injuries and was transported in serious condition.

The driver who fell asleep also sustained injuries and was airlifted to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

Officials don’t believe that any of the injured occupants of either vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries, Roden said.

State Route 6 was temporarily closed in all directions near the crash while officials cleared the scene.
