DRAPER — A belly dump truck semitrailer crashed into a pair of cars Monday morning on I-15, spilling diesel fuel and causing heavy delays for northbound commuters.
The crash occurred near 14600 South about 8 a.m. when the semitrailer failed to stop in time for slowing traffic, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. Two cars were rear-ended, but there were no serious injuries, and nobody was taken to a hospital, Royce said.
Two lanes of traffic remained closed just after 11 a.m., and northbound motorists were still experiencing delays of at least 15 minutes. That was expected to be reduced to one lane by about noon thanks to the removal of the semitrailer, according to Royce.
The damaged semitrailer leaked some diesel fluid into nearby storm drains, which complicated cleanup efforts, the sergeant said.
