Kisner birdied three of his final five holes, including a 20-footer on 18 to complete a 4-under 67. Reigning U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka (KEHP'-kuh) starts in a five-way tie for second at 3 under, while Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are 1 over.
NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has scheduled its earliest opening night in 37 years. The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers will begin the 2017-18 season with an Eastern Conference finals rematch on Oct. 17 before the defending-champion Golden State Warriors host the Houston Rockets later that night. The NBA moved up the start of the regular season in hopes of creating more opportunities for players to rest without missing games.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say veteran NBA star Zach Randolph was arrested on a marijuana charge after several police cars were vandalized when a large gathering became unruly at a Los Angeles housing project. Police say the 36-year-old forward was taken into custody late Wednesday on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Randolph's agent and attorney says the charges are false and misleading.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will have a total knee replacement surgery on his right leg this weekend. The procedure will force the Blue Devils to cancel this month's exhibition trip to the Dominican Republic. It's the sixth surgery in 17 months for the 70-year-old coach, who has won a Division I men's-record 1,071 games to go with five NCAA championships.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — UCF basketball coach Johnny Dawkins has received a one-year contract extension through 2023. The former Duke All-American took over the program last year and guided the Knights to a 24-12 record and an appearance in the NIT Final Four. UCF doubled its win total from the previous year, the sixth biggest turnaround in NCAA Division I basketball last season.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Former major league umpire Ken Kaiser has died in his hometown of Rochester, New York, at 72, according to the World Umpire Association. Kaiser worked more than 3,000 games from 1977-99 and was voted most colorful umpire in the American League in a poll conducted by The Sporting News. He briefly moonlighted as a professional wrestler to make ends meet while working in the minor leagues.
