CANTON, Ohio (AP) — The Pro Football Hall of Fame has welcomed seven new members. They include running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Terrell Davis, quarterback Kurt Warner, sackmaster Jason Taylor and kicker Morten Andersen. The other inductees are Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, a contributor, and Seahawks safety Kenny Easley, a senior nominee.
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase says he has reached out to free agent quarterback Jay Cutler, who showed interest in signing with the team. But Gase says he doesn't think the Dolphins are close yet to signing a quarterback in the wake of starter Ryan Tannehill's left knee injury, which could sideline him for the entire season. Gase said Saturday he'd like to determine Tannehill's status before bringing in another quarterback.
UNDATED (AP) — Major League Baseball has given Oakland outfielder Matt Joyce a two-game suspension without pay for directing a gay slur toward a fan in Anaheim on Friday. Joyce said he is "beyond sorry," and the Athletics also made a statement insisting his language was unacceptable and wouldn't be tolerated. He will take part in a public outreach initiative with PFLAG, a family and ally organization supporting the LGBTQ community.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Thomas Pieters and Zach Johnson will be co-leaders heading into the final round of the PGA's Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Pieters closed with his eighth birdie of the round for a 4-under 66 that leaves him 9-under. The first-round leader made only three pars over the last 11 holes but managed to move into a first-place tie after Johnson completed a 5-under 65.
LONDON (AP) — Usain Bolt was beaten in his final 100-meter race, losing to American Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman at the world championships in London. In a tight finish, Bolt was punished for his slow start and Gatlin fought back to nip everyone at the line in 9.92 seconds. Coleman took silver in 9.94 seconds while Bolt got bronze in 9.95.
