TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho dairy group has sent a letter to Jerome County commissioners in opposition to a pending jail contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Idaho Dairymen Association Executive Director Bob Naerebout tells the Capital Press that many dairymen are concerned with the impact increased ICE presence could have on their workforce in south-central Idaho. An ICE memorandum obtained by the newspaper states no on-site ICE compliance personnel would be housed at the Jerome facility.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Canadian officials say three types of potatoes genetically engineered by an Idaho company to resist the pathogen that caused the Irish potato famine are safe for the environment and safe to eat. The approval confirmed by Health Canada officials on Thursday means the J.R. Simplot Co. potatoes can be imported, planted and sold in Canada. The company says the potatoes also have reduced bruising and enhanced storage capacity.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — About 100 people gathered at the headquarters of Hecla Mining Co. in support to miners who have been on strike since March. The gathering occurred Wednesday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — An 18-month-old Idaho boy who went missing from his home has been found dead in a canal. KBOI-TV reports Mason Cunningham's body was found on Wednesday about 4 miles away from the family's home.
