IOKA, Duchesne County — A head-on collision left two people dead Sunday evening, Utah Highway Patrol officials said.
At about 4:36 p.m., a 1995 Chrysler was traveling eastbound on state Route 87 near Ioka, Duchesne County, with a driver and two passengers inside the vehicle. A 2008 Hyundai was traveling westbound with a driver and four passengers inside. The driver of the Chrysler suddenly veered into the westbound lane and collided with the Hyundai, UHP officials said.
Both the driver of the Chrysler and the driver of the Hyundai were killed in the crash. It was not immediately released if the passengers were injured in the collision.
Officials have not identified the deceased victims, pending family notification.
Troopers said speed and impairment are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
