SOUTHPORT, England (AP) — The third round of the British Open is underway, and scores are trending low in the early going at Royal Birkdale. Among the first 20 players, three shot 65s and three posted 66s posted. Only three players were over par for the day, and the worst of those was a 73 by Danny Willett.

WASHINGTON (AP) — All-Star point guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards have agreed to a $170 million, four-year contract extension that will start with the 2019 season, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. One of them tells The Associated Press that the extension includes a player option for the final season in 2023, and a 15 percent trade kicker.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The U.S. soccer team is one win from playing in its fifth CONCACAF (KAHN'-kuh-kaf) Gold Cup final, and Texan Clint Dempsey is one goal away from a national scoring record for the team. The Americans play a semifinal game against Costa Rica tonight in the Arlington, Texas stadium that's home to the Dallas Cowboys.

PHOENIX (AP) — New outfielder J.D. Martinez hopes to make his first home start for the Diamondbacks when they host NL East-leading Washington tonight. Acquired in a trade with Detroit this week, Martinez was hit on the left hand by a pitch Wednesday in Cincinnati, his first game with Arizona. X-rays were negative and Martinez was available off the bench last night against the Nationals.

MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Defending champion Chris Froome looks to seal his fourth Tour de France title today in the second-last stage of this year's race. Going into today's time trial in Marseille, the Team Sky leader has a 23-second lead over Romain Bardet.
