The following nomination comes from Jean North, a citizen of Heber City:

Detective Tammy Thacker has devoted her career to helping make her community a safe, exceptional place for the children of our community to grow up in. She is the strongest advocate for the children in the Heber Valley. When Detective Thacker is involved with Children in the community they find a friend in her. She goes above and beyond what is required of her. The children respect and look up to her and are willing to work hand in hand to help better their situation. When she sees a need she is usually the first one to act upon it. An example is a family living in devastating circumstances and in need of help for Christmas. Officer Thacker shared their plea with others in the community and through many long hours and hard work was able to make their home a safe home and more comfortable to live in. She purchased a Christmas tree and gifts from her own pocket so the children in the family would have a Christmas. Her comment when she finished, "What a heartfelt gift I have received this Christmas."

Detective Thacker is a wife, mother, homemaker and a great friend to all who has the privilege of knowing her. She loves to can fruits and vegetables she grows in her own garden. Her yard is filled with beautiful flowers and herbs as she enjoys working in her yard and garden. She has many talents that she shares often with everyone. She loves to go four wheeling, camping and cooking dutch oven dinners. She is such a vital asset to our community and we are grateful to have her and work alongside her in our community. She truly makes a difference.

Detective Thacker works with the School Counselors in expressing her concerns and building up students who need that little extra push. Detective Thacker started Shop with a Cop in the Heber Valley. It is a wonderful program and is going strong to this day. Detective Thacker felt a need to have a stronger bond between the children and officers in the valley. She instigated an event called Kid's Academy. It was a free event offered to any child between the ages of 10-14. Kids learned what it is like to be a police officer, use radio, traffic stops, shooting sim guns, finger printing, and evidence gathering, physical fitness and more. Lunch was provided and those who attended went away with a new found alliance with the Police Department. Many of her co-workers helped make this event successful. It went over so well that she is planning on for this year also. Detective Thacker is involved in The Latino's In Action program helping promote and building stronger relationship's for these students to improve throughout the Heber Valley.
