SOUTHWICK, Mass. (AP) — Eli Tomac swept the 450 Class motos Saturday in the Southwick National for his third straight Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship event victory and fourth of the season.
The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider from Cortez, Colorado, also won the opener at Hangtown in California and took the events the last two weeks at Tennessee and Michigan. He has nine career 450 Class victories, also winning at sandy Southwick last year.
"We only have one really good sand track of the year and that is here at Southwick," said Tomac, also the 250 Class winner at the track in 2013. "It seems most guys either love or hate this track, but I'm a big fan of it and enjoy coming here. I think we're in a good spot points-wise, not really fighting anything on the motorcycle and it's nice to head into the off weekend on a good note."
Tomac has a 19-point lead over KTM's Blake Baggett after seven of 12 events.
Baggett was second in both motos. Husqvarna's Deam Wilson was third overall, finishing sixth in the first moto and third in the second.
Husqvarna's Zach Osborne won the 250 Class event for his second straight victory and fourth of the season. Osborne, from Abingdon, Virginia, won the second moto after finishing second behind Yamaha's Dylan Ferrandis in the opener.
Ferrandis was second overall after finishing second in the second moto. KTM's Alex Martin was third in each moto to finish third overall.
Osborne has a 45-point lead over Martin.
"It was another good day for me and I'm happy to finish on a strong note heading into the break," Osborne said. "I caught a little bit of a break having Dylan as the guy up there battling with me. If it had been anyone else who is closer in points, I might have felt forced to push the issue a little bit more, especially in the first moto. The track was definitely deeper than last year, I thought it was really good and it got really whooped out today."
