(KSL News) Republican presidential nominee John McCain is questioning the record of his White House rival, Barack Obama.

"There are essential things we don't know about Senator Obama or the record he brings to this campaign," McCain said today at a campaign stop in New Mexico.

That comment followed statements made by his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin. She has questioned Obama's connections to alleged domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and to Obama's former Chicago pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Obama has also gone on the offensive. His campaign unleashed a new ad accusing McCain of what it called "dirty politics."

"No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject, turn the page on the financial crisis by launching dishonest, dishonorable assaults on Barack Obama," the ad says.
