OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The NBA Western Conference finals begin this afternoon in Oakland as the Golden State Warriors take on the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors are 8-0 in the playoffs so far and eyeing a third straight trip to the NBA Finals. The Spurs are back in the in the conference finals for the first time since winning the 2014 title.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Anaheim Ducks try to even their Western Conference final series tonight when they host Nashville in Game 2. The Ducks dropped the opener in overtime to the surging Predators, who are 9-2 in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nashville knocked Anaheim out of the playoffs last year in the first round.
UNDATED (AP) — The Yankees have placed closer Aroldis Chapman on the 10-day disabled list with rotator cuff inflammation in his left shoulder. Right-hander Chad Green has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees are hosting a doubleheader today against the Houston Astros. In between the two games, the team will honor Derek Jeter by retiring his No. 2 and unveiling a plaque in his honor.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — NASCAR driver Aric Almirola has been released from the University of Kansas Medical Center after fracturing a vertebra during a fiery wreck at Kansas Speedway last night. He is returning home to Mooresville, North Carolina, and will follow up with doctors in Charlotte. Almirola was trailing Joey Logano and Danica Patrick when they were sent into the wall in the first turn. Almirola plowed into Logano's car.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Royal Mo has fractured a bone in his hoof during a workout in preparation for next weekend's Preakness. Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens says he was aboard Royal Mo today when he heard a pop while turning into the stretch at Pimlico. The horse's leg was placed in a boot and he was taken to the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center for treatment. His trainer says X-rays revealed a fractured sesamoid bone in the colt's right front hoof, an injury that could take four to eight weeks to heal.
