CEDAR HILLS — Some homeowners awoke early Thursday to flooded basements. Others watched as crews in their front yards began digging up the road in front of their homes after an irrigation waterline burst overnight.
"It sounded like a lot of rain," said Cedar Hills resident Drew Williams. "Then it was 3:30, and there's a whole crew of guys with a jack hammer and a backhoe ripping the daylights out of the road."
No injuries were reported, but the break caused flooding in four basements and forced crews to rip up Morgan Boulevard to replace the pipe, said Cedar Hills Mayor Gary Gygi.
The break closed a handful of nearby residential streets and affected homeowners' secondary water systems, Gygi said.
He's asking residents to avoid watering their yards and outdoor plants Friday and over the weekend, and said the systems were pumping water at 50 percent the normal pressure while repairs were being made.
Gygi said Thursday evening that his staff was still investigating the cause of the break.
"We don't know the full extent of the damage," he said.
