(KSL News) -- Fire officials in Layton call an early morning fire a case of arson.

The fire started at a Layton 4-plex, located at 1500 W. 1600 N. Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 15 others were left homeless.

Fire officials say the blaze started in one of the basement apartments and spread to the other units. Early estimates put the damage at more than $40 thousand.

Investigators used trained dogs to examine the scene and found evidence of accelerants. They do have a person of interest in the case.
