WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan earlier this month killed an al-Qaida leader. Defense officials confirm the death of Qari Yasin, who they say was responsible for a deadly hotel attack in Islamabad in 2008 and the 2009 attack on a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says Yasin's death "is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Trump administration national security adviser Gen. Michael Flynn is denying allegations by a former CIA director that he participated in a discussion with Turkish officials about possibly subverting the U.S. extradition process to remove a Turkish cleric from the United States. A Flynn spokesman says James Woolsey's claims are false and "no such discussion occurred." Turkey accuses the cleric of directing a failed coup last summer.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden says if he had run for president in 2016 he could have won. Biden told students at Colgate University in central New York on Friday that he could have won the election but the Democratic primary would have been "very difficult." Biden said his son Beau's battle with brain cancer kept him out of the race. Biden said he doesn't regret not running but that he does regret not being president.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nissan is recalling more than 56,000 cars because of power steering hoses that may leak fluid and potentially lead to fires. Nissan North America says the recall affects the 2013-2014 Murano vehicles. The problem stems from the power steering hose clamp, which may not adequately secure the hose. That could allow the hose to detach and leak power steering fluid onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes, possibly causing a fire.
UNDATED (AP) — Two teams from the West Coast will be in the Final Four. The Southeastern Conference hopes to fill the other two spots. Gonzaga trounced Xavier 83-59 and Oregon upset Kansas 74-60 in Saturday's regional finals. Kentucky plays North Carolina in the South Region on Sunday and an all-SEC showdown between Florida and South Carolina in the East. If Kentucky beats North Carolina, the SEC would send two teams to the Final Four.
