HEBER CITY — Actress Brooke Mueller has entered a plea in abeyance for driving 20 mph over the speed limit and not pulling over for police for 6 miles, according to charging documents.
Mueller, 39, of Park City, was charged in January with failing to stop at the command of an officer, a third-degree felony; reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor; and never obtaining a Utah driver's license, an infraction.
On Jan. 13, a Heber City police officer spotted Mueller going 20 mph over the speed limit on Main Street, according to a probable cause statement filed in 4th District Court. The road was slick and partially covered with snow and slush, according to the report.
Mueller got up to 53 mph before leaving the 35 mph zone, the report states. She "then sped up to 74 mph in a 55 mph zone," according to the officer's report.
The officer turned on his siren to pull Mueller over, but she "still did not stop," the charges state. He followed Mueller for about 6 miles "at high rates of speed" before she finally pulled over.
"The driver claimed she could not see me out her back window," according to court documents.
The officer noted in his report that Mueller's back window was clear.
Mueller gave the officer a California driver's license while saying she had lived in Utah for about eight months, charges state. She was arrested for investigation of reckless driving and fleeing, according to the report.
Mueller was booked into the Wasatch County Jail and posted bail about an hour later, according to a report from the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office.
On Wednesday, Mueller accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to a reduced charge of attempted failure to stop at the command of a law enforcer, a class A misdemeanor. In exchange, the other two charges were dropped.
Court records list the resolution as a plea in abeyance, but do not list the conditions of her sentence. A plea in abeyance means a defendant enters a plea of guilty or no contest, but will have the charge dismissed — typically after a year — if the conditions of the plea agreement are met.
Mueller, the ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, made headlines in November after reportedly walking barefoot into a Salt Lake City bar with her 7-year-old twin sons. The next morning she was seen yelling at passing cars near 1700 South and Foothill Boulevard, according to Salt Lake police.
Later that day, she was pulled over by the Utah Highway Patrol driving with her two children and a nanny on I-15 near Nephi. Mueller was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. Several media outlets reported Mueller, who has had publicized battles with addiction in the past, entered rehab in Park City after the incident.
No charges were filed in connection with the November incident
