COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Norwegian authorities say a 50-year-old Italian tourist who was caught in an avalanche in Arctic Norway remains in a critical condition.
The Norwegian rescue services in northern Norway say two skiers were injured when an avalanche tumbled down Thursday shortly before 4 p.m. in Lyngseidet, east of Tromsoe. They were part of a group of nine.
The University Hospital of North Norway in Tromsoe said Friday one skier was in a critical condition while the other had minor injuries and wasn't hospitalized. No identities were given.
Norwegian news agency NTB says the risk of avalanche in the area was "considerable."
