PROVO — Four people have been arrested in connection with an incident that led to the shooting death of a 24-year-old manlate Monday night, police said.
Police responded to the fatal shooting at a home near 100 North and 400 West just before midnight Monday. A man who had been shot, 24-year-old Gustavo Ramirez, was driven to a local hospital by his girlfriend and died on arrival, according to Provo Police Sgt. Brian Taylor.
Provo police said Brayden Marshall, 18, Maria Hernandez, 18, and Jerry Hawley, 34, were arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of an armed robbery that resulted in the death of Ramirez. Marshall had a 9 mm handgun in his possession when he was arrested.
Another 18-year-old man, Ricky Jaynes, was arrested for investigation of drug and weapons-related charges during the course of the investigation, according to police.
The suspected gunman in the incident, 21-year-old Jesse Gourdin, of Orem, remained at large until about 1:10 p.m. Thursday, police said. Farmington police were able to arrest Gourdin after an officer got a tip that he was in a vehicle with a man in Farmington, Taylor said. Farmington police officers were able to locate Gourdin and took him into custody Thursday afternoon.
"Investigators believe Marshall, Hernandez and Hawley accompanied 21-year-old Jesse Gourdin to Gustavo Ramirez’s house to commit an armed robbery. Detectives believe Hernandez told the men there was money in the house, Marshall supplied the gun to Gourdin, and Hawley drove them all there to commit robbery," according to the police statement.
Taylor said Hernandez told the others there was a "certain amount of money" in Ramirez's house. She also claimed that Ramirez had a backpack that belonged to her, Taylor said.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
