NEW YORK (AP) — New York's attorney general says the dismissal of dozens of U.S. attorneys nationwide is causing chaos in the federal government, but legal observers say it's not unusual. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman praised fired Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH'-ruh) while decrying the dismissal of over 40 of 96 federal prosecutors. Bharara announced he was fired by the Justice Department after refusing a request to resign.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Vice President Mike Pence is asking for total Republican congressional support for a White House-backed health overhaul. He spoke about it today during a brief visit to Kentucky, where the Republican governor and junior senator are among the plan's skeptics. Pence told a crowd that "This is going to be a battle in Washington, D.C. " Pence's trip was part of an effort to reassure conservatives who have raised objections to the House plan.

POTOMAC FALLS, Va. (AP) — President Donald Trump says the U.S. Secret Service did a "fantastic job" apprehending a "troubled person" who got onto the White House grounds after climbing a fence on the east side of the property while Trump was inside the executive mansion. It was the first known security breach at the White House since Trump took office nearly two months ago. No hazardous material was found in the suspect's backpack.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Hundreds of protesters are gathered near the Dutch Embassy in the Turkish capital in Ankara shouting slogans against the Netherlands for barring Turkish ministers from addressing rallies there. Police sealed off the entrance to Holland Street, where the embassy is located. Still, around 500 people waived Turkish and Ottoman flags near the embassy building.

GRAETTINGER, Iowa (AP) — A fiery train derailment in rural Iowa has at least one group suggesting that the industry should move faster to upgrade aging rail tankers. A Union Pacific train hauling 100 tankers full of ethanol derailed early Friday, sending 27 tanker cars off the tracks. Federal rules enacted in 2015 call for replacing or retrofitting the tankers in question by 2029, although most would have to come off the tracks sooner.
