PRESTON, Idaho (AP) — An eastern Idaho snowmobiler separated from his group during a blizzard and lost in the backcountry for more than 24 hours has been rescued after taking shelter in a snow cave.
Franklin County Sheriff David Fryar says searchers found 20-year-old Kacey Hebdon of Preston at about 5 p.m. Monday.
After becoming lost on Sunday, Fryar used his cellphone to call for help but didn't know his location. Blizzard conditions forced rescuers to put the search on hold at 1 a.m. Monday.
Fryar tried to light a tree on fire but his snowmobile burned up. He spent the night in a snow cave.
On Monday, three friends found his tracks and followed them to the snow cave.
Fryar says his toes might be frostbitten but he is otherwise OK.
