OREM — It’s been a crazy season for Utah Valley men’s basketball, with the program’s first-ever win over crosstown rival BYU and some unprecedented lows culminating in a 14-15 season.
But now it all comes down to three days in Las Vegas beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m. MST against Seattle.
Head coach Mark Pope admitted the program has been on a roller coaster in his second season at the helm when he gave KSL Sports an all-access pass into the Wolverines’ Senior Night win over Seattle this past weekend.
“We have been through more ups and downs than any season I’ve ever been,” Pope told his team in a pregame address. “Our highs have been freakingly historically high.
“There is a lot of distraction.”
Pope also gave KSL a sneak peek at “the Wolverine claw” coming to UVU’s concession stands and other places doughnuts are sold.
“It is awesome,” he said. “Hopefully it will become a mainstay. We are building this piece-by-piece.
“People will come from miles — from out of state — to try this Wolverine claw. It’s big time.”
Pick one up the next time you are in Orem, and watch the video above for a behind-the-scenes tour of game day given by Pope prior to his team's Senior Night victory.
“This is my dream startup, and I’ve got a bunch of guys behind me who are building the same thing,” Pope said. “It’s been awesome.”
