(KSL News) A Payson City Councilman says he is not guilty of assault. Scott Phillips is charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault.

Phillips says he grabbed the two teens he is accused of assaulting because they were attempting to vandalize his truck. Police say they found no evidence of that, though, and the teens have not been charged with any crime.

He entered a not-guilty plea to the charges yesterday and has asked for a jury trial.
