Wagner edges Fairleigh Dickinson 72-70 in NEC Tourney

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) — JoJo Cooper's late layup made the difference and Wagner edged Fairleigh Dickinson 72-70 in the Northeast Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night.

Cooper's winning layup came with 1:41 to play and Fairleigh Dickinson missed three attempts after that as the Seahawks (16-13) held on for the victory. Wagner meets St. Francis in the NEC Semifinals Saturday.

Michael Carey led the Seahawks with a career-high 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to notch his 11th double-double of the season. Corey Henson added 14 points, AJ Sumbry had 11 points and nine rebounds and Cooper finished with eight points.

Wagner led 38-32 at the break, but Fairleigh Dickinson kept pace and went ahead 54-53 on a Stephan Jiggetts 3-pointer with 10:56 to play. The Knights were up 70-67 late when Henson hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 70 with 2:45 left.

Jiggetts scored 22 points to lead the Knights (11-19).
