OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge in California has agreed to release on bail the widow of the gunman who killed 49 people at an Orlando nightclub until she faces trial on charges of aiding his attack. But she has put that order on hold for two days, to give prosecutors a chance to appeal. The judge decided today that Noor Salman isn't a flight risk or a danger to public safety. The judge says there's no evidence that Salman has connections to the Islamic State or holds extremist views. Her husband, Omar Mateen, pledged allegiance to several terror organizations during the attack before police shot and killed him. Salman will live with her uncle in Northern California and has to wear an electronic ankle monitor.
NEW YORK (AP) — After ending a 12-day winning streak yesterday, the Dow Jones industrial average has been surging higher today -- topping the 21,000 mark for the first time. Banks and other financial companies led the way, a day after President Donald Trump -- in his speech to Congress -- reaffirmed plans to cut taxes and push for other business-friendly policies.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's plans for a trillion dollars in infrastructure spending don't all involve federal money. That's according to a key Republican congressman. Bill Shuster, who chairs the House transportation committee, says the plan will likely include private projects such as pipelines that have been hindered by regulations or by a lack of government permits. Trump touted his plan to Congress last night, but hasn't said how he would pay for it.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The vocal crowds of demonstrators who've been making weekly visits to the Tampa, Florida, office of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio have gotten the Miami Republican evicted from the building. The owner of the nine-story office center notified Rubio's office that it will not renew the lease. The building's owner says the rallies have become too disruptive to the other tenants and a costly security expense for the company. Rubio's office says it's looking for a new office space. Rubio's seven statewide offices have been lightning rods for demonstrations.
NEW YORK (AP) — Best-picture winner "Moonlight" is heading back into theaters in what will be its widest release yet. Its distributor says the film will play in about 1,500 theaters this weekend. "Moonlight" first opened in late October, and while it played in 585 theaters last weekend, it's already out on DVD and digital rental. "Moonlight" has thus far grossed $22.3 million in domestic release. That makes the film, made for just $1.5 million, one of the lowest-grossing best-picture winners ever.
