OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Utah and Oklahoma City, the top two clubs in the NBA's Northwest Division, are colliding tonight on the Thunder's home court. Coming into play the Jazz lead the Thunder in the division by three games with each team riding a three-game winning streak.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — In an Atlantic Coast Conference game this evening 15th-ranked Florida State is playing at No. 17 Duke. The visiting Seminoles are 23-6 on the season and 11-5 in conference play while Duke is 22-7 and 10-6 in conference play.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota's Vikings have declined to pick up their option for next season on running back Adrian Peterson. The move means Peterson, the Vikings all-time leading rusher, will be an unrestricted free agent when the market opens next week. The club says it is open to the idea of bringing Peterson back but at a lower amount than the $18 million the option called for.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The bullpen of the Washington Nationals has been improved. The National League club has reportedly come to terms on a deal with veteran free agent Joe Blanton. A source tells The Associated Press that the Nats and Blanton have agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract.
UNDATED (AP) — In a move to improve the roster as they play for a playoff berth, the New York Rangers have acquired defenseman Brendan Smith in a trade with Detroit. Smith was drafted by the Red Wings in 2007 and in return the Red Wings got two draft picks, a third round choice this year and a number-2 next year.
