AMERICAN FORK — It is an odd item to steal, but one that is in high demand this time of year.
On Thursday, a black 2006 Lincoln Town Car sedan stretch limousine was stolen from Plan-it Rental in American Fork.
“Timing is bad for sure, you know, Valentines and Sweethearts dances,” said company owner Cory O’Bryant.
Employees were forced to make heartbreaking calls this week informing their customers that a ride they reserved — some months in advance — wouldn't be available for Valentine’s Day.
O’Bryant said the business rented their limo to a customer on Feb. 9, but the next morning that customer did not show up to drop it off.
“We were getting frustrated, so we continued to call and call and call,” he said.
Eventually, the company got in touch with the customer’s family members who informed them that the vehicle was stolen while parked outside an American Fork residence.
American Fork police are also investigating.
“The company provided us information on the last person who rented it,” American Fork Police Sgt. Josh Christensen said. "That person has been cooperative, but at this time we do not have any suspect information."
Investigators hope it won’t be long until someone spots the ride.
“It is a unique vehicle, which makes us believe that it will be recovered quickly,” Christensen said.
The theft is a setback for the company, especially because it rented the limo months in advance.
“We are still hopeful that we will get the limousine back and, you know, be able to fulfill some of the upcoming reservations,” O’Bryant said.
The limousine has Utah license plate reading “PLAN IT.” Anyone with information on the limousine is asked to call American Fork Police.
