WEST JORDAN — A man wanted in connection with a sexual assault of a 5-year-old child at a West Jordan library Wednesday has been arrested, police said.

Troy Michael Sickler, 26, was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail Saturday on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child and child kidnapping, both first-degree felonies, according to jail records.

West Jordan police said Sickler was identified Friday night through several tips after police released surveillance video footage of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault of a 5-year-old child earlier in the day.

Police said Friday the assault happened at the West Jordan Library at 8030 S. 1825 West on Wednesday at approximately 1 p.m.

Police said the man followed the child into the restroom. After the man left the restroom, the child came out and told his sister and mother what happened. After police posted the photos Friday, information was given that helped identify Sickler and the arrest was made.

No additional information was immediately released about the arrest Saturday.

Court records show Sickler was arrested in April 2015 after police allege he tried to crawl under a bathroom stall in a West Valley library to approach a 7-year-old boy. He was charged with lewdness, a misdemeanor, but the case was dismissed in 2016 after he was ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Jim Cooper, Salt Lake County Library director, said in a prepared statement that he was happy with how quickly an arrest was made in the case.

"The County Library recognizes and appreciates the swift action by all to protect our children,” he said. "Safety at the library for our young patrons and their families is paramount to us."
