ATLANTA (AP) — Celebrations took place in various parts of the country today to mark the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. In more than one venue, speakers and attendees expressed reservations about President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration. Martin Luther King III met privately with Trump in New York. The younger King described the meeting as "productive."
ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkish media reports say a gunman suspected of killing 39 people during a New Year's attack on an Istanbul nightclub has been caught by police. Turkish news channel NTV says the suspect was captured in a special operations police raid on a house in Istanbul. The alleged gunman's friend and three other people also were detained.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter will appear in court on Tuesday after being arrested in connection with the attack. Noor Salman was taken into custody in the San Francisco Bay area and is facing charges including obstruction of justice. Her husband, Omar Mateen, was killed in a police shootout during the rampage that claimed 49 victims.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts across the West are concerned about losing access because of a change in U.S. House rules. The rule change will make it easier to transfer millions of acres of federal public lands to states. The Senate would have to weigh in on public land transfers as well.
DETROIT (AP) — A source says General Motors will announce a $1 billion investment in its factories that will create or keep around 1,000 jobs. The announcement is expected Tuesday. The source says the investment is part of the normal process of equipping factories to build new models, and has been planned for months.
