DELLE, Tooele County — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper responding to assist a motorist ended up arresting a man accused of murder in Iowa.
The trooper had stopped to help the driver of a Honda Civic on westbound I-80 Thursday evening in Tooele County. During the stop, the trooper identified the driver as Kyle Jepson, 22, of Des Moines, Iowa, and arrested him on an outstanding burglary warrant in Iowa, the UHP reported.
The trooper also learned the car Jepson was driving was associated with a missing person case involving an Iowa woman, according to the UHP.
The Des Moines Police Department said in a news release Friday that Jepson was wanted for investigation of murder and robbery. He is accused of killing Gloria Gary, who was reported missing Jan. 5 and was last seen Jan. 3.
Gary's car was spotted twice this week in Utah — Wednesday in Parowan and again Thursday in Tooele County.
Des Moines police say they obtained a search warrant for Gary's home and found a body believed to be hers. A positive identification awaits autopsy results.
Jepson was arrested and booked into the Tooele County Jail, where he was waiting Friday to be extradited to Iowa.
