SOUTH SALT LAKE — Winter conditions made a slow, slick commute and closed some schools along the Wasatch Front Thursday morning.
Numerous crashes and slide-offs were reported Thursday morning. Utah Highway Patrol urged motorists to slow down, keep distance between their vehicle and the one in front of them, and move over for emergency vehicles so troopers and others won't get hit.

Wednesday night, a crash on Interstate-15 closed all northbound lanes near 3200 South in South Salt Lake, UHP reported. UHP said multiple crashes in the area blocked all lanes around 9:15 p.m. MT. Only minor injuries were reported. The northbound lanes reopened just before 10 p.m. MT.
Another crash on I-15 near Tremonton closed southbound lanes Wednesday evening, UHP said. The crash involved at least 15 vehicles, including a semitruck hauling cattle, meaning the cleanup of that crash "will be a problem," said UHP Sgt. Todd Royce. Only minor injuries were reported in this crash as well. It was cleared by the Thursday morning commute.
The crash happened near milepost 376 in Box Elder County. Roads in the Tremonton area remained slick with several crashes reported Thursday morning.
A major snowstorm hit several parts of northern Utah at the time of the Wednesday crashes. Snowy weather was hitting Salt Lake and Davis counties "pretty hard" Wednesday night, according to Royce. He said extra troopers were called out to handle crashes as a result of the problematic weather.
"The biggest thing is, if you don't have to go out tonight, don't," Royce said.

Thursday morning, air travelers were advised to check their flight status. Several flights at Salt Lake International Airport were delayed — some by 30 minutes and a couple by up to four hours — due to weather.

Meanwhile, northern Utah was also impacted dramatically. The city of Garland in Box Elder County reported receiving 15 inches of snow. The Cache County School District, Logan City School District and Box Elder School District alerted parents that all Thursday classes would be canceled in anticipation of below-zero temperatures and all-day snow.
The snowstorm is expected to wash over all of the Wasatch Front by 4 a.m. Thursday, bringing up to 1 to 3 inches of snow in northern valleys, according to KSL-TV meteorologist Kevin Eubank. About 4 to 8 inches of snow are then expected to blanket much of central Utah.
