BOSTON (AP) — Justin Alston and Eric Fanning each had double-doubles, Cedric Hankerson hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points and Boston University beat Holy Cross 61-55 in the Patriot League opener for both teams on Friday night.

Fanning had 14 points, a season-high 10 rebounds and five assists while Alston finished with a career-high 15 rebounds and 13 points.

Fanning hit a jumper and then Alston's putback of his own missed layup capped an 11-0 run that gave Boston (6-7) the lead, 53-45, for good with 11 minutes remaining.

Anthony Thompson answered with a 3-pointer but the Crusaders made just 1 of 9 from the field and committed four turnovers from there and the Terriers held on.

Robert Champion had 18 points and Matt Husek scored 15 for Holy Cross (6-8), which made just 6 of 25 second-half shots.

BU outrebounded the Crusaders 47-27.
