Cal State Northridge snaps 4 game skid, beats Morgan State

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kendall Smith scored 19 points and Cal State Northridge built an insurmountable early lead and cruised in the second half to an 82-61 win over Morgan State on Thursday night.

Tavrion Dawson had 16 points while Aaron Parks and Rakim Lubin each added 12 for the Matadors (4-9), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Cal State Northridge did not make a 3-pointer, finishing 0 of 3, but did shoot an efficient 57. 4 percent overall and reached the free-throw line 32 times.

Phillip Carr scored a game-high 25 points for Morgan State (3-10), which has lost four straight. David Syfax and Kyle Thomas were the only other Bears to score more than five points, finishing with 11 and 10, respectively.

Cal State Northridge scored the first eight points and led 17-6 after seven minutes. Two Kendall Smith free throws gave the Matadors a 20-point lead at the break and they cruised from there.
