SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Residents throughout Utah had a snowy Sunday, including the area near Salt Lake City's airport, were weather officials say more than 8 inches fell, making it the second snowiest Christmas on record.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Nick Carr said the airport received about 8.1 inches of snow by midmorning. It wasn't expected to top the snowiest Christmas recorded 100 years ago, when 9 inches fell.
Carr says Salt Lake City suburbs and the Ogden area saw anywhere from 7 to 10 inches, while 9 inches to a foot of snow fell were reported in northern most Utah's Cache Valley.
About one to two feet fell in the mountains and ski resorts, and in southern Utah, six inches were recorded in Kanab, just north of the Arizona border.
Most snow was expected to taper off Sunday afternoon and evening.
