SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Maljhum McCrea scored a career-high 17 points and Texas State rolled to an 87-37 victory over Division III member Howard Payne on Tuesday night.

McCrea was 8 of 10 from the floor. Nijal Pearson had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Texas State (6-5). Maxwell Starwood added 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting. Immanuel King finished with 11 points.

The Bobcats had 21 assists, led by Kavin Gilder-Tilbury's seven. Texas State outrebounded Howard Payne 44-31 and forced 26 turnovers.

Rickey Guillory scored six points to lead the Yellow Jackets, who shot 14 of 50 from the floor (28 percent).

Texas State had a double-digit lead about seven minutes into the game and led 43-22 at halftime. Guillory made a 3-pointer to pull Howard Payne to 45-30 early in the second half but they didn't get closer.
