LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Braxton Huggins scored eight of his 24 points in overtime, Jemerrio Jones and Eli Chuha each had double-doubles and New Mexico state beat UC Irvine 85-79 in overtime on Monday night.
Jones had 23 points and a season-high 18 rebounds and Chuha scored 10 with 12 boards.
Jones sandwiched two buckets around back-to-back 3-pointers by Huggins to give New Mexico State (11-2) an 82-74 lead with 34 seconds to play.
Jaron Martin hit seven 3s and scored 33 points — both career highs — for the Anteaters (5-8). Senior Ioannis Dimakopoulos added 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his first-career double-double.
UCI shot 45 percent from the field, including 11 of 24 from 3-point range. NMSU hit 30 of 83 overall and 5 of 23 (22 percent) from behind the arc, but scored 18 points off 17 Anteaters turnovers and had 26 second-chance points on 27 offensive rebounds. The Aggies, who have won nine in a row, committed a season-low seven turnovers.
Two free throws by Jones capped a 7-2 spurt that made it 72-all, and eventually forced overtime, with 1:52 left in regulation.
