EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The NFL is trying to fill the void of no college football on Saturday by having a game tonight in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The game has the Jets playing host to the Dolphins in a contest that means more to the visitors. With a win Miami would have its first winning season since 2008 and its first season sweep of the Jets since 2009.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have placed veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson on injured reserve after he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Johnson hurt his Achilles tendon in the Chiefs' win over Oakland on Dec. 8.
UNDATED (AP) — The 41-game college football bowl season starts today. On tap are the New Mexico Bowl, the Las Vegas bowl, the Camelia Bowl and the New Orleans Bowl. The lone night game is the one in New Orleans.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — There won't be a boycott of the Holiday Bowl by players from the University of Minnesota. They had threatened to skip the game because of the suspension of 10 players accused of participating in a sexual assault. The players met with school officials last night and were told the suspension will not be lifted.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — In the NBA's first game of the day, the early-season favorite for the MVP award is on his home court. The man in question is Russell Westbrook, who is averaging a triple-double one quarter of the way through the season. This afternoon Oklahoma City is playing host to the Phoenix Suns.
