(KSL News) Firefighters are used to taking on the heat, but not the kind they took on today.

Two battalions from the Salt Lake City Fire Department faced off in a chili pepper eating contest at Z'Tejas restaurant at the Gateway.

They stuffed their faces with red chili mud pies and just plain old green chilies.

It's all part of Z'Tejas annual Chili Festival that runs through September that raises funds for a charity of the firefighters' choice.
