(KSL News) -- Separated twins Maliyah and Kendra Herrin took their first liquids by mouth today.
The four-year-old girls, separated at Primary Children's Hospital last week, are making slow but steady progress. The twins were given sips of water to see how their lower digestive tracts can handle it. If everything goes well, they could gradually evolve to small doses of liquid food.
Over the weekend, Kendra and Maliyah were removed from ventilator support and upgraded from critical to serious condition. Maliyah, who does not have a kidney, remains on dialysis.
