UNDER A CLOUD — Sports can be important, but ultimately they aren’t as big as other life moments.

But when multiple communities rally around the tragedies of a sports figure, the results can be incredible.

Such was the case Sunday when Utah lost one of its strongest fighters after a nearly two-year-long battle with cancer.

Rest in peace, Hayes Tate.

Internet rallies around Hayes Tate’s cancer battle

The infant son of former Utah safety Steve Tate died after his 20-month cancer battle Sunday. As soon as the father shared the heartbreaking update on Instagram, the flood of support came in.

Much of it started with BYU running backs coach Reno Mahe, who tragically lost his 3-year-old daughter Elsie last week.

> [@tate28](https://twitter.com/tate28) I love you bro! Tate and Elsie will be watching over us. [\#FAF](https://twitter.com/hashtag/FAF?src=hash) > > — Reno Mahe (@RenoMahe) [December 4, 2016](https://twitter.com/RenoMahe/status/805472381334654977)

Farewell, Uncle Verne

For 17 years, the weekly SEC football broadcast on CBS has known only one voice.

Verne Lundquist called it a career Saturday after Alabama’s 54-16 win over Florida in the SEC championship game.

But before he did, the network sent out a legend in style with one final tribute.

> Verne Lundquist and SEC football: a remarkable combination that we’ll never forget. The emotions of the moment weren’t lost on Lundquist, either.

> Verne says he’s going to miss the SEC. But really, we’re all going to miss him on the SEC on CBS. Balling out in junior high

Let's end with some happy news.

Caden Mitchell returned from a broken tibula and fibula just in time for this playoff game against Bountiful Junior High and Syracuse Junior. He even made a clutch shot in the second half.

But which is more impressive: the shot, or this defender's vertical leap as he hurdles Caden trying to make a play?

Watch the video in the space above for the complete tape.
