CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Shane Whitfield scored a career-high 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and Campbell slipped past The Citadel for a 97-91 win Sunday in the Holy City Hoops Classic.
Chris Clemons added 27 points and Cory Gensler had 12 for Campbell (5-4), which shot 60 percent. Whitfield's rebounding total also was a career best and the game marked his first double-double.
Trailing by 12 at the break, Campbell used a 16-9 run to tie the game at 60-all, then took the lead for good during a 9-0 run capped by Clemons' jumper, making it 80-73 with 3:20 to go. The Camels held on the rest of the way.
The Citadel (6-4) got 21 points and 11 rebounds from Zane Najdawi. Preston Parks added 20 points, Matt Frierson had 14, Frankie Johnson 12 and Quayson Williams 11 for the Bulldogs.
