WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) — Yun Sung-bin of South Korea won the men's skeleton World Cup season-opening race Saturday, the second victory of his career on the circuit.
Yun finished two runs in 1 minute, 45.86 seconds. Russia's Alexander Tretiakov was second in 1:45.98, and Matt Antoine of the U.S. used the strength of a flawless second heat to grab the bronze in 1:46.22.
Latvia's Martins Dukurs, the seven-time World Cup champion, was fourth. That snapped a 21-race streak in which Dukurs finished first or second in a World Cup race, his last missed podium coming in December 2013 at Lake Placid.
Yun has become a favorite for the 2018 Olympics in South Korea, part of a briskly emerging national team there that's also enjoying success at the World Cup bobsled level. His other World Cup win came at St. Moritz last season.
