WEST JORDAN — A Boy Scout leader accused of molesting a member of his troop pleaded guilty this week to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Lyle Scott Mackay, 46, of Herriman, is now scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 30 in 3rd District Court after entering his plea Tuesday.

Charging documents say Mackay invited an 11-year-old boy, who was a member of his Scout troop, to play a board game at his home on March 18. The boy told police Mackay pretended he wanted to watch college basketball together, but instead took him into a bedroom, set him on his lap and fondled him.

The boy reported the ordeal to his mother, and police were contacted on the same day the abuse occurred, court documents state.

Mackay told Unified police he was the victim's Boy Scout leader and formerly his Cub Scout leader. Mackay was not hosting an official Boy Scout activity at the time of the molestation, according to prosecutors.
