FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Jaron Hopkins scored a career-high 23 points, had five steals and one blocked shot to lead Fresno State to an 83-64 win over Lamar on Saturday.

Paul Watson added 17 points, Jahmel Taylor was 4 of 6 from beyond the arc for a career-best 16 and Terrell Carter II had a career-high 15 points for Fresno State (2-1).

The Bulldogs hit 7 of 18 from long range and made 30 of 53 field goals (56.6 while limiting Lamar to 23-of-57 shooting.

Fresno State took the lead midway through the first half and had a 38-24 advantage at the break. Lamar mounted a charge in the second half, closing to 63-57 with 7:21 left following two Cullen Russo free throws. Hopkins answered with a jump shot and Watson made two free throws and the Bulldogs pulled away in the final minutes.

Cameron McGee and Colton Weisbrod had 10 points apiece for Lamar (2-1).
