SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A judge has postponed sentencing for the man convicted of multiple felonies for having run the Doll House escort service as a prostitution ring.
Third District Judge Randall Skanchy delayed sentencing after Santiago Steve Maese's attorney asked the court for a new trial.
In a 99-page court filing, attorney Gil Athay says he details nine separate issues to support a new trial, including legal errors and prosecutorial misconduct.
Salt Lake County prosecutor Chad Platt objected to the last-minute, "surprise" motion.
Skanchy set a new hearing date for Sept. 22.
In July a jury convicted Maese of four counts of third-degree felony exploiting a prostitute and one count of second-degree felony pattern of unlawful behavior.
He was acquitted of a money laundering charge.
