A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a vehicle. It looks like the driver just didn't have enough time to react.
It happened near 7800 South and 400 East around 6:00 last night.
Sandy police say the girl ran out into the road. She may have been crossing to see a friend. The driver couldn't stop, swerved but still hit her.
Lt. Bill O'Neal says it appears the driver did what he could.
"As far as we can tell right now, we find no wrongdoing on the part of the driver. Obviously an investigation is going to follow and we'll make sure there was no wrongdoing on the driver's part. But it appears that unfortunately the little girl ran in front of the vehicle and was struck."
Police say speed was not a factor and the sun would have been behind the eastbound driver.
The girl was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition.
